Last weekend we celebrated Mike's German heritage by making a traditional (to his family) German dinner. The recipe for spochens, which are a variant on potato dumplings, has been passed down for generations in Mike's family. It's a somewhat lengthy production and involves shredding potatoes, straining them through cheesecloth, rolling them into balls and boiling them. Personally and much to Mike's chagrin, I think they are rather bland but I'm not much into German food-all that meat and potato is just too much for me. Elise enjoyed helping him and "bonding" over the German heritage.
We ate them with gravy and a big yucky looking German sausage

Oh, how I miss Mike and Holly's cooking. Mike brought a new meaning to the term "sausage party," and Holly and Mike have made some of the best meals I've eaten (Mike with his fried chicken and Holly with her lobster pot pie). Yum.
Aw..Thanks Fran! We try our best...Mike hadn't been cooking too much with work and all but he made me a special short ribs with oatmeal stout sauce and noodles dinner on Sunday and it was De-lish!
btw, you're no slouch with your pies either;-)
Hi, the recipe handed down by our family included grated bread and onions. We served them with a beef roast on Sunday gatherings. Let exchange recipes.
