Funny Elise
Elise was eating her broccoli tonight and said, "mommy, this is filled with such good mints."
I said "umm, sweetie I'm not sure what you mean."
She replied "you know mommy, the mints that make you feel healthy."
Still I said "hmm. OK. But there are no mints in it..so mommy is still confused."
She said "oh mommy, these ox mints, you know."
and I remembered we had had a conversation about antioxidants and vitamins..hahahaha
Elise proudly showing her big girl underwear..we're finally potty trained:-)
This pose could also being saying "goal!" As she will be starting soccer soon!

Cabo San Lucas...
...was amazing. What a beautiful place! We stayed at an ultra-luxurious resort and had an incredible wrap around veranda that afforded killer views of the cape (we were on the very tip). Every morning we ate breakfast on the veranda while watching the whales right off shore. Simply wonderful weather. It was just perfect:-)

Hasta Luego
I'm pretty sure I just heard my favorite expression: "petulant naval-gazing"
I wish I'd thought of it...
We leave for vacation in the morning and barring any arrests or kidnapping related to Mexican drug wars (you know how the froehlers can get on vacation...) we will be back from Cabo in a week:-)
Mike is getting all "dad" on us. Anyone who knows how he vacations knows that he takes organization at the airport very seriously.
"Holly, get over here! Stop reading those magazines! Where's your passport?! Stand in this line!"
It must be the german in him. Or perhaps my flippant attitude..probably both.

Nerd Alert
Thankfully today was back to normal sunny skies and pleasant temps but yesterday was pouring cats and dogs and nerds. We were singing
It's raining, it's pouring the old man is snoring. He went to bed and he bumped his head and couldn't get up in the morning!

To which Mike replied, "See Elise, the moral of this story is that you never go to bed with a subdural hematoma because then you would have to come and see Daddy..."
To make up for the nerdiness Mike made a very thoughtful and interesting dinner. We here in the Froehler household love our beets. (Fran, I know your thoughts are with us) We try to make them as often as possible but it can be time consuming and a dirty job overall. Mike decided to whip up a beet salad with goat cheese (our favorite) and some beet soup which he created and put inside of an acorn squash with a dollop of sour cream...it was so damn good. I think He is trying to salvage his title as best cook in the family...Holly has slowly been stealing his thunder over the last year;-)

Rocking the Kasbah

I have been on a serious hunt for a more sophisticated candle or scent for our abode. I consulted with the ever knowledgeable Katie and she turned me on to Votivo. I will never ever EVER buy another candle again. I am easily annoyed with candle aromas-too sweet, too cleaning producty, too dull, too MUCH. I can't stand Yankee candles for that reason..these votivo candles are the opposite. They are absolutely intoxicating and infuse the room with a pleasant, almost sensual smell. The price is steep but well worth every penny, for me, anyway:-) I have decided if I could be any smell I would be Votivo's Moroccan Fig, heavenly.
And that leads me to my next thought..we went out for Moroccan food last night at a place called Tagine. It was marvelous! The food was unusually tasty and aromatic. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and everything from the shrimp with spicy almond sauce to the bastilla to the lamb with cauliflower and couscous to the baklava with sweet tea and strawberries was outstanding. Bastilla is a Moroccan meat pie which layers chicken, egg and almonds in phyllo dough and tops with sugar and cinnamon. Mike lovingly referred to it as a chicken donut and unpleasant as the description might sound, it was quite delicious. The food was reminiscent of that of an Ethiopian restaurant in Boston we ate at years back. However, and I'm aware this is in very poor taste, I did not leave starving this time.
