Thankfully Perseus did not slay Medusa this night. I really wanted to be scary and I kinda was. Mike looked a little like a priest. We had too much fun at the party...

One hip chick
Overheard:
Elise's friend: "You have a really cool mom Elise. She's so nice and pretty."
Elise: "I know. She's so cool. And she listens to really awesome music too."
I'm pretty sure that's one of the best compliments I've received (albeit, indirectly) and that friend just got bumped up to number one.

Bonjour Pépère!
So many good things about this picture. Elise and Max's pépère relaxing on the beach in Maine. Should we play "what ethnicity is this man?" or "are his eyes opened or closed?" One can never tell...Looking forward to seeing my dad and the rest of my family and friends in New England on July 14th!

Finally!
Thank goodness the Higgs boson has likely been discovered, Mike was thirsting for some nerdy groundbreaking news. It's fun to watch him get so excited about such discoveries..the twinkle in his eye. Now, if only we could move forward with it quickly so I can travel back in time and rid myself of that ridiculous haircut I had circa 1999-2000!

Grand Cayman
There is a reason why we never get professional photos taken. Well, two reasons: 1) We mostly think they are lame; 2) We are not the most photogenic family (take note of the children). We traveled to The Cayman Islands with Mike's side of the family and it was a perfect setting for getting some much needed documentation that we are, in fact, a family of four. We also got some great shots of Mike's whole clan spanning the generations but I will leave that for them to blog about.
*Please also take note of the gray in Mike's beard.

We're on a roll!
To the few who were mad about the lack of posts..sorry. geez.
Anyway, quote of the day from Mike:
"There was at least one day in the seventies where it was cool to have chest hair. And that's the day I continue to live in."

Boing!
thought Ramona...
We just finished reading all of the books in the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary. Thankfully, the only thing Elise has tried to emulate is making her own paper shoes:
That is good news since people mistakenly (or not?) referred to me as Ramona when I was little. My behavior was almost as deliciously naughty as the beloved heroine.
We are almost finished with the first Harry Potter and Elise is smitten with Harry. I smell a book crush.

Tennis
Elise started tennis last week and she likes it almost as much as I like the band, Tennis. She's pretty cool now that she's a first grader. She is squeezing in a few weeks of the game before we head to the Cayman Islands. Mike's family is resurrecting the yearly trip to the beautiful island of Grand Cayman. Well, at least for this year. Then in July we will be heading to New England for some long awaited fun with my family. And then a trip to San Diego (just the Dr and Mrs) at the end of July. Mike has a conference and this will give me an opportunity to see some SoCal friends I have been missing:-)
There is no joy in her expression but she took one for the team and rode on this train with her little bother for as many times as he wanted "big choo-choo".
She can be sweet when she wants to be. I repeat, when she wants to be.

A Prayer
Please God. Grant me early acceptance into Harvard (or my safety school, Cornell) and allow me to live unburdened of these people I call "Mom and Dad".
Number two
Max turned two! and then he got a haircut..Max is making the most out of being two years old. And by making the most, I really mean he is fulfilling his role of "terrible two" perfectly.

Nostalgia
I was organizing the "library" upstairs today and rearranging some boxes when I came across a print of my favorite painting and stopped in my tracks. I sat and remembered being a child and having a small print taped (yes, scotch taped) to the wall in my bedroom. I stared at it every night before falling asleep.
If you ever have the chance to visit the Norman Rockwell museum in Stockbridge, Mass you should.

Somebody loves you
Elise crept down to our bedroom this morning. (master suite is on the main level in case you were thinking we slept in the basement..as if!) and quietly whispered in my ear "somebody loves you."
I was in the half asleep/half awake state. Not the dreamy, trippy state where you wonder "cool, am I dreaming?" The kind where what I heard instead was "somebody's going to kill you."
AHHHHHH!! and I shot up in bed "what? who? where are the kids?! Mike!!"
I never post anymore but thought I would share that story since valentine's day is one of my favorite holidays. Not for the romantic, love, competitive cheesiness, but because it's just a really cute holiday. Elise and I made the most adorable valentine's for her class. (hers were the best!..hehehehe)
and she knows it...she was happy to enjoy chocolate in the middle of the day! gasp! at school!
Aside from Max and me having an unapologetic cold/cough, everyone's day has been happy and sweet. Mike rarely buys me jewelry but when he does it's usually tres magnifique. I guess he had been saving up because I got a beautiful diamond necklace this year. It's called a "journey" necklace with diamonds in graduated sizes up to a big one. I said "of course, like our journey in life." He said "No, like the band." obviously...
And in case you were always wondering:
Ha! I knew it!!
